Gifted and Talented Education Structures and Supports

The focus of this course is to provide educators the tools, research, and supports for reaching, teaching, and classifying gifted and talented youth. In addition to this, students will be exposed to the barriers and misconceptions that surround gifted and talented education and how to combat them. Students will be exposed to various strategies and concepts that are effective and impactful. Provided within the coursework are real-world examples and scenarios taken from live classroom instruction to serve as inspiration and a starting point for teachers to actively use within their own practice. Programs and strategies like Makerspace, Growth Mindset, STEAM, and basic differentiation, will be covered and explored in detail.

Introduction to the Dynamic Power of the Brain

Based on the scientific principles of neuroplasticity, this course will begin with a basic introduction of how individuals of all ages can reduce symptoms of ADHD, cognitive decline, depression, anxiety, pain management, sleep disorders, conduct disorders, and trauma by training the brain. Discussions will include the use of neurofeedback as an effective, non-invasive intervention for longer-term brain challenges, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), chronic pain, generalized anxiety, and insomnia
