Thinking of teaching English for grades 9 and below? Want to advance your understanding of the subject matter? The Supplementary Authorization in English could be for you! This intensive starts July 10th and is taught over three months through four different courses.

This is an exciting opportunity to advance your existing credential.

What Is the Program All About?

The Supplementary Authorization in English helps teachers with an advanced writing curriculum. Teachers will learn to integrate literature and vocabulary usage through multiple-paragraph compositions with analogies, paraphrasing, points of view and transitions.

Students of the intensive program will work through American literature classic works through the lens of grammar, parts of speech and principles of standard sentence structure.

The Nitty-Gritty

This is not an NCLB-compliant program. It is a CTC-approved authorization, offered in an intensive format, that can help support an existing credential. Additional units are still needed to meet the federal regulation requirements for subject matter competency and compliance.

This is a 16-unit program which consists of four, 4-unit courses. The program can be completed entirely online.

Requirements for the Program

You do not have to apply to start the program, but you’ll need to complete an application before the program finishes to receive assistance in filing your CTC paperwork.

To get into the program, you will need a bachelor’s degree or higher and one of the following valid, unexpired California teaching credentials:

  • Multiple Subject
  • Single Subject
  • Standard Elementary
  • Standard Secondary
  • Special Secondary

To take part in the program, you will need to sign up for all 4 of the classes to complete during the summer quarter.
