About the Course

Covers the topics of curriculum theory and instructional practices and processes as they relate to the secondary science classroom, with particular emphasis on the needs of the in-service teacher. Subjects covered include: transforming science knowledge into science literacy; integrating science inquiry into the daily curriculum; orchestrating the laboratory (including lab safety); utilizing technology and internet resources; strategies for teaching science to English language learners; issues of gender equity in science education; issues of cultural diversity in science education; how to meet the needs of diverse learners; science assessments, rubrics, and grading; and designing engaging lessons aligned with the Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards (CCSS and NGSS).
