About the Course
Academic Writing is a course designed to prepare you with academic writing principles in various academic applications. Lessons engage students with content focused on developing critical thinking skills, analytical reading skills, essay organization, paragraph development, citation and summary, and writing style and grammar.
1. Identify and write effective thesis statements. 2. Identify parts of an essay. 3. Write clear topic sentences related to their thesis statements. 4. Find and integrate supporting evidence via citation and paraphrase. 5. Develop analytical paragraphs with supporting evidence. 6. Identify and write clear summary summaries for conclusions and abstracts. 7. Apply critical reading criteria. 8. Identify and fix common grammatical errors like comma splices, run-ons, and fragments. 9. Identify the differences between descriptive, persuasive, analytical or critical writing. 10. Apply pre-writing strategies for essay organization in various formats whether descriptive, persuasive, analytical or critical. 11. Write an article critique. 12. Write an detailed outline for literature review. 13. Apply APA style.
