About the Course

Cosmetic Chemistry is the science of creating safe and effective formulas for cosmetic products, and this course is the gateway into that realm. You will receive a broad overview of the cosmetic industry infrastructure and regulations, and cover the primary cosmetic categories, description of ingredient names and their origins, as well as basic raw material categories, functions, and how to link these ingredients to claims.

Instructor

  • Valerie George, B.Sc., Chemistry, Kent State University, Ohio, and is currently the President of Simply Formulas, Inc., in Los Angeles. She has dedicated the last decade to advancing the field of cosmetic science by raising awareness of the industry, mentoring others, and leading the Society of Cosmetic Chemists, both locally and nationally. Ms. George has also taught high school chemistry, and been a guest lecturer in hair color science at the University of Toledo.
