ESL High Beginning

This is a high beginning level English class in which you will develop basic reading, writing, speaking, listening, and grammar skills. You will practice daily tasks such as:

  • describing appearances
  • discussing the past
  • talking about health
  • ordering in restaurants
  • making future plans

Course topics will reflect everyday life and may include clothing styles, people, activities, countries, hometowns, and food. You will learn strategies for reading brief texts, and write sentence-level notes or messages.  You will also develop your communicative skills by working in groups on projects and delivering presentations.

Candace Jorgensen, M.A., Education with TESOL Emphasis, also holds TESOL and TEFL Professional Certificates, and specializes in teaching English pronunciation skills. Her own world travels, plus studying in other countries, inform her understanding of student needs and the challenges of learning second languages.  Ms. Jorgensen also speaks French and Danish.
