The DS "BRIDGE" program was modified from the standard DS program specifically for teachers holding a Clear Single or Multiple Subject credential with an EL Authorization. The focus of this program is to bridge your current Clear credential with a DS credential while preparing you to teach students looking to begin a vocational, technical, trade, or military career. Coursework emphasizes diverse learning concepts, innovative strategies in the classroom, content related to high-quality instruction, and developing and managing an effective DS classroom. - Curriculum development and instructional planning skills related to developing occupational oriented knowledge and skills in developing lesson plans
- Strategies for planning instruction, which is relevant to the diverse needs of students and various occupations
- Classroom management strategies to develop and maintain a safe and effective learning environment
- Concepts surrounding the CTE and Special Subject professions with highlights touching on the legal and ethical issues in the field
CTE Requirements:
- A teaching job or offer of employment that requires the DS credential.
- Hold a Clear Single or Multiple Subject credential with an EL Authorization (Preliminary credential holders do not qualify for the "Bridge" program).
- Three years of verified work experience* in the industry sector you would like to teach. (One year of recent, general K-12 teaching experience will count toward one year of the three-year requirement).
Special Subjects Requirements:
- A teaching job or offer of employment that requires the DS credential.
- Hold a Clear Single or Multiple Subject credential with an EL Authorization (Preliminary credential holders do not qualify for the "Bridge" program).
- Four years of verified experience. For Special Subjects, the military experience must be recent. At least one year of the experience must be within the three-year period immediately preceding the issuance of the credential.
- Completion of a U.S. Constitution course or exam.
- Copy of Discharge Form (DD Form 214) or retirement certification, if applicable.
