Setting Up Your UCR NetID
Step-by-Step Instructions

A UCR NetID is your unique identifier, and all UCR Extension students are required to have one. It provides access to the campus and UCR Extension wireless networks, and online classes and resources.

You have received an email with links, instructions, and the Temporary ID and Password you will need to complete the setup process.

If you did not receive or can't locate the instructions, email netidhelp@ucx.ucr.edu.

  • Online technical support is available Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Friday, 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Saturday, limited support from 10 a.m.-12 noon. Email netidhelp@ucx.ucr.edu to request assistance. You will receive an email response in approximately 2 hours.
  • In-person assistance is available at the Student Services Counter, located in the front lobby of the UCR Extension Center, Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-7 p.m.; Friday, 7:30 p.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday, 7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. (limited staffing).
  • Telephone assistance is also available during the hours listed above. Call (951) 827-4105 or (800) 442-4990.

Samples of what you will see during the setup process are shown below. Please refer to these samples and detailed explanations if you have any trouble completing the setup.

1. Getting Started

  • Follow the link in your email to ldap.ucr.edu/selfservice
  • Once you arrive on the page, carefully copy and paste your temporary ID and temporary password from the e-mail into the corresponding fields shown on the screen. Remember: your temporary password is case-sensitive, so make sure that your CAPS LOCK key is off.

If you are a former or current UCR student and think you already have a UCR NetID, don't stop here. You need to enter the Temporary LoginID and Temporary Password provided in the email to proceed to Step 3 where you will receive instructions to LINK your existing UCR NetID to your new student record with UCR Extension. It is important that you do NOT create a second UCR NetID.

2. Accepting the Policy Agreement

You must agree to ACCEPT the UCR Account Policies & Guidelines, and the UCR Wireless Policies and Guidelines. These two documents address the use of UCR's technology infrastructure by faculty, staff and students.

3. Create New Account or Use Existing Account

  • If you do NOT already have a UCR NetID, select "Get a New NetID" to set up your account.
  • If you already have a UCR NetID and you know your ID and password combination, select "Use My Existing NetID" and follow the prompts to LINK your current UCR NetID to your new student record with UCR Extension.

    If you are a current or former UCR student, faculty or staff; or a current or former UCR Extension student, staff or faculty and don't remember or aren't sure if you have a current UCR NetID account and password, email netidhelp@ucx.ucr.edu for assistance.


It is important that you do NOT create a second UCR NetID.

4. New Account

If you selected "Use My Existing NetID," skip this step and continue to Step 7.

If you selected "Get a New NetID," the next step is to create a password for your account.

The password you create must be at least 6 characters, with a minimum of 2 alphabetic characters and 1 non-alphabetic character. You will enter the password twice.

Please remember that your password is case-sensitive.

The password you create will not be stored in our system, so you should remember it and keep it noted in a safe place.

5. New Account - Bad Password

If your password does not meet the requirements, you will need to try again.

The password you create must be at least 6 characters, with a minimum of 2 alphabetic characters and 1 non-alphabetic character. Your password is case-sensitive, so your CAPS LOCK key should be the OFF position when you create your password.

6. New Account - Confirmation

If your password is accepted, the next screen you see will be a confirmation message which includes your new UCR NetID (assigned by the system). You should write down your UCR NetID.

If you forget your NetID and/or password:

  • Online technical support is available Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-7 p.m.; Friday, 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Saturday, limited support from 10 a.m.-12 noon. Email netidhelp@ucx.ucr.edu to request assistance. You will receive an email response in approximately 2 hours.

Once you have successfully created your UCR NetID, you must wait 3 HOURS for it to activate before you can access NetID or WiFi; 4 HOURS before you can access eLearn (Moodle); and 24 hours before you can access iLearn (Blackboard).

If you try to login to eLearn (Moodle) or WiFi before the activation period, you will receive an error message (in RED, below the LOGIN NOW button): "The credentials you provided cannot be determined to be authentic."

7. Existing Account

If you are a current or former UCR student, staff, faculty member or current or former UCR Extension student, staff or instructor and think you may already have a UCR NetID, you will need to LINK your existing UCR NetID account to your UCR Extension record. If you are not sure, email netidhelp@ucx.ucr.edu for assistance.

If you selected "Use My Existing NetID," enter your current UCR NetID and password in the appropriate fields.

8. Existing Account - Bad NetID or Password

If you entered your UCR NetID or password incorrectly, you will need to try again.

Remember that your password is case-sensitive. If you have forgotten your UCR NetID or password, email netidhelp@ucx.ucr.edu for assistance.

9. Existing Account - Confirmation

If you entered a valid UCR NetID and password, you will see a confirmation screen confirming that your accounts have been LINKED.

Once you have successfully LINKED your UCR NetID, you must wait 3 HOURS for it to activate before you can access NetID or WiFi; 4 HOURS before you can access eLearn (Moodle); and 24 hours before you can access iLearn (Blackboard).

If you try to login to eLearn (Moodle) or WiFi before the activation period, you will receive an error message on the CAS Login Screen (in RED, below the LOGIN NOW button): "The credentials you provided cannot be determined to be authentic."

10. Net ID Process Complete

Now that you have your UCR NetID, you can access your online courses and UCR's WiFi network.

Please remember that you must wait 3 HOURS for it to activate before you can access NetID or WiFi; 4 HOURS before you can access eLearn (Moodle); and 24 hours before you can access iLearn (Blackboard).
